Leadership

Eldership
Also known in the New Testament as Bishops, Shepherds, or Pastors, the Elders of the Willette Church of Christ are responsible for overseeing the local congregation of Christ's church. The elders are required to feed the flock of God, making sure that each Christian receives the spiritual sustenance needed to grow. To see the qualifications of the Elders, please see 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.

Deacons
The deacons of the church of Christ are stalwart workers. Paul in his letter to Timothy outlined the qualities of a deacon: "Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 3:12-13. The Elders appoint deacons to carry out specific duties, such as outreach or benevolence, or organizing mission works, or coordinating activities of the youth group.

Preacher
A preacher is one whose duty it is to make public proclamations according to Romans 10:14. Also called an evangelist in 2 Timothy 4:5, he is a "bringer of good tidings," or a "messenger of good." He is one who brings the good news of Jesus Christ to a lost world. The duties of preachers as defined in the New Testament are:

"Do the work of an evangelist" and "fulfill your ministry" 2 Timothy 4:5
"Preach the word" 2 Timothy 4:2
Be faithful regardless of personal costs 1 Timothy 1:3; 5:21; 2 Timothy 4:2; 4:5
Rightly divide the Word of Truth 2 Timothy 2:15
Pray and teach others to pray 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Train others to preach the word 2 Timothy 2:2
Provide an example of Christian living 1 Timothy 4:12

The associate preacher is to fulfill the same duties as the full time preacher, but on a part-time basis. The associate preacher shares in the responsibilities of the preacher and
preaches to the congregation in the preacher's absence.
